Back ground of UNIHOT-UGANDA

United Hands of Transformation Uganda (UNIHOT–UGANDA) is a non government, nonprofit making and non partisan organization. It was formed in early 2013 by a group of social workers with a major purpose of advocating for the promotion of women and children’s rights. After being convinced that through human rights advocacy, environmental protection, HIV/AIDS sensitization and prevention, improved water and sanitation, education innovation, agriculture value chain and food security we shall contribute fully to the benefit of our communities.

It’s registered under Reg No. CD/NGO/159, with the head office located in Kabarole District the initial operation area in western Uganda. The organization is constituted to operate in Uganda and has a plan in place to establish offices in Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern regions of Uganda.

Over half year, UNIHOT-UGANDA has grown to expand with other programs coming up with support of the community development grant under Fort portal Municipal Council.

Statement from the Chairman

Welcome to the United Hands of Transformation Uganda blog. The Board and its members are pleased that you have taken the time to visit our log and trust that you will find what we do in transforming our societies in Rwenzori sub region of Uganda.

This blog provides an overview of the focus and general direction of Unihot-Uganda and the operational principles which guide its affairs. It also provides an insight into the geographical coverage and membership of Unihot-Uganda and provides an opportunity for persons to apply for membership.

We invite you to navigate the blog and welcome any comments that you may have regarding how best we can meet your needs and interests. We are particularly interested in receiving comments from funders, practitioners, academics and other stakeholders in the community transformation field.

The Board of Unihot-Uganda recognizes that the effective execution of community empowerment programs (CEP) in the region is dependent on the efforts of the various groups charged with this responsibility. These persons and/or entities, no doubt, cover a broad spectrum - from board members to implementers and management. The diligent execution of each task by personnel within the complex structures of the organisation management is critical to the overall success and transformation our focal societies. To this end, we endeavor to cater to all our beneficiaries, stakeholder at all levels, through the various implemented activities, workshops, conference organized by Unihot-Uganda, with the invaluable support of the district community development grants.

We are cognizant of the vast pool of vulnerability in our communities and measures/approaches are in place to transform low income households in the region. Unihot-Uganda seeks to provide opportunities for networking and knowledge sharing by members throughout the region, all with the view to enhancing the capacity of households to sustain themselves move another step above the poverty line in the region.

Statement from the Ex.Director

From unihot

I am Mwebembezi Jostas a Ugandan by nationality and holds Bachelors Degree in Statistics of Makerere University Kampala.
I have conducted a number of field activities working with small holder farmers in Rwenzori Region.In that course I noted different challenges in rural communities
which are not being addressed as required among them is products Value addition, farmers have limited capacity to produce high quality crops in big quantities just because they still use sub standard crop seeds, they have inadequate information of the current improved varieties, market return from improved produce like High Quality Cassava Flour(HQCF) price as compared to returns from the local quality which take 24 months+ to mature.
Farmers in Rwenzori region have limited market linkage they tend to sell their produce at the farm gate at low prices but if these farmers are empowered to produce and add value to their produce I believe farmers will
earn high from their produce and their income will sustain them to cater for other basic needs at home this approach will help lower the poverty levels in Uganda.
After identifying the solution to solve poverty among citizens in Rwenzori region, we came up with an idea to start an organization that will work with smallholder farmers to address the poverty problem through an approach-
Agriculture value chain. After realizing the food and health are complementary needs in the community. we also want to promote
inclusive public health care with major focus on HIV/AIDS a main health threat in Kabarole District where students are the most affected yet they are the pillars of tomorrow's Uganda. http://www.newvision.co.ug/news/632269-hiv-aids-high-in-kabarole-district-secondary-schools.html
